How do we make friends using the Internet---By Lesley

How do we make friends using the Internet? One way is to search for websites that have topics that interest us. For example, you might be interested in football. Then you could search for a site run by a popular football club. There are hundreds of football sites, and most of them have a special website for their fans. The same is true of popular culture, and many popular music bands have websites. Once you have located the right football club or pop group, then you will see where to click in order to “chat” with other fans. The word “chat” has got popular because of the Internet, which means a light conversation among friends. Another way to make friends using the Internet is to access sites that are devoted to this purpose. When you search the Internet for these sites you will find that there are plenty of opportunities to meet people of all ages and from many different backgrounds.

Making a new friend is only the first step. The key to a successful relationship over the Internet is to keep in touch with your friend. When the relationship works in this way, it is very rewarding for both partners. You can set the style and pace of the exchange to suit each other. If you use “instant messenger” systems, your chat becomes a dialogue, which is a lot of fun and can help strengthen the growing friendship.

You will soon find that the topics go far beyond a discussion of football or music, even though these topics brought you both together. Another way to strengthen the friendship is to include your school friends in your conversations too, and then you can form your own “chat” group that meets regularly and becomes a small community of friends.

It is like belonging to a club. Your club can extend to many new and old friends, and their conversations will enrich your life in ways that you could have never imagined.  If your Internet club grows then perhaps you will find ways to meet your new friends face to face, which will be another story.

we are parts of nature-----Tom

Today I have an argument with my roommate. I feel sad for him whose major is biology, because he says we human can conquer nature.

Of course, many people think that human is matchless, but I think we can never conquer nature. Because we are parts of nature, we are children of nature, we cannot live without nature.

In some places it’s true we are conqueror. Especially after Industry Revolution, we have created so many wealthy. We become stronger and stronger; we can even walk on the moon, dive into the deep sea, and build station on the land of Antarctica. Also, our agriculture would never be only laid on the nature, we can rain by ourselves. We can use pesticide to kill the enemies of plants. No animals can be danger to us; in fact, we can put them into the iron covers or kill them at once.

However, at the same time we also see the forces of nature are powerful to be resisted, floods tsunamis new disasters and so on. We can fly in the sky, but we can not repair the destroyed ozonosphere; we can dive into the deep sea, but we can not prevent it being polluted; we can catch any animal, but we can not stop them to die out,

I think we human beings are parts of nature. We are not the host of the nature. So we should never destroy but to protect it.

Competition, the Power of Progress-------Jack

Contemporary society is often portrayed as one of which are full competition in every aspects, such as competition among individuals, competition among companies, competition between nations, or competition in technology and so forth. We are living, in short, in a competitive world, in which almost everyone has to struggle for a living. Though some one might claim that they would rather live in a world of less competition, I do insist that competition benefits us more than it do harm to us all.

Competition in technology contributes to progress in society. As is know to us, before the invention of steam engine, people in the past who wanted to travel from one place to another had to go by foot, by carriage, or by sailing ship. The speed of every vehicle was so slow—of course, by modern standard—that the journey became interminable and tiresome. But now, thanks to the modern technology, people can travel to every place in the world, even to the Moon, at a tremendous speed within a short time by various vehicles, such as cars, airplane, spacecraft etc. Surely, this is the result of competition in transportation. Another proper example which can serve as the evidence that making progress in society is the invention of electric light by Edison. Undoubtedly, it is the idea to make use of electricity that leads everyone in this field to inventing a facility and results in the invention of electric light and also made Edison the famous person in world history. Given that no one wanted to compete with others, how came the electric light?

Competition in economy has proved to increase economy efficiently. China’s change in economic policies is a good example of competition in economy. Before Deng Xiaoping became the chairman of China, planned economy had dominated as a main policy in China for a long time, which had proved to an ineffective one in increasing people’s living condition. But with the policy of market economy adopted by chairman Deng, China’s economy had been increasing dramatically in recent twenty years. We know that the main gist of market economy is competition.

Competition in politics can benefit public. In America, for example, when parties and candidates compete for power and honor, people can benefit from them. For one thing, in order to require full support from electorate, the two parties would have to demonstrate what they can do to the public, what they will do serve the civilians, what policies they will adopt and what attitudes they would hold towards the world, the society and the culture, etc. Therefore, people have right to select one of the parties, which they think to be the best one for themselves. For another, to become a leader of a state or a community, the candidates must compete with each other, proving that they have the ability to bring prosperity or peace. Through such competition, people can find out who is the proper one as a leader and can benefit them in every aspect of life.

Admittedly, when competition gets out of the control of morals and laws, society suffers. The nuclear weapon, for instance, I think, is a bad result of competition in military. Thought it was able to stop the World War II, it now become a super weapon to threat another nation and may lead to a frightful calamity of human beings. Another example is the pollution of air. It is, in a large sense, because of the competition between companies who just want to make as much profit as they can in lower cost and neglect the environment surrounding them.

In sum, competition benefits our society as well as do harm to it,  I am optimistic in our brighter future and surely believe that for every problem there is a solution.

continue to talk about love--------Tom

What makes us hurt so much?  May be my answer will surprise you. It is ourselves, the close heart of us. Don’t believe? All right! Now I show you it.

Look in the face of someone who is very protective, and unwilling to be hurt. What have they done? They have closed themselves from others. And what do you see? Hardnessanger and fear.

Look in the face of someone who is open, loving and unprotect. What do you see? This type of person is alive. This person has happiness, freedom, inner peace and a joy of living.

So do you want to create a life of love? I think everybody does. Now I will show you the ways.

First, break down the wall of self-protection. To see how our wall of protection pushes away love, notice how you feel when you are around someone whose walls are thick. Notice how uncomfortable you feel. Notice how your walls go up. So don’t be afraid that if we open our hearts and express our love, we will get hurt. Don’t put up our walls of protection. Don’t hold ourselves back and push people away. Don’t create distance and destroy love.

Second, learn to give love. Open your heart and give your love out. As you do this, you can receive love in return. Life comes more enjoyable and you become more effective. But you should open your hearts and express your love first. Please don’t wait to be loved to love. When your life is about opening your hearts, you really can alter the planet on which there are six billion people. When enough people are willing to open their hearts and express their love, the rest of the world will follow. We will have a planet that is loving and supportive.

“Dark June”-By Lesley

Another “Dark June” has just passed away. Millions of high school graduates went through the fierce and unscrupulous fight. The just two or three days’ time can even determine which college a school can enter and mainly the future of the student. Some can do well and achieve their dreams to be permitted to their ideal universities. But for the others, they may fail, only to stop going into school or stop to gain a job and begin to struggle for living.

Two year ago, I was also one of the troops to fight for dreams. To make dream come true, we all studied hard, day after night. For me, finally I wasn’t permitted to my ideal college and unfortunately had to come here, or either, I failed in the exam. But I didn’t despair for even one night. I have already fought for my dream. To entry which college is not so important, what’s most important is to gain knowledge and skills, and to be strong when facing to odds.

The experience I underwent in the “dark June” has brought me great strength. It tells me not to be despaired, no mater how hard the difficulty is. I have no doubt that you can gain something as long as you work hard.

The Real College Life - Far From Imagination-By Lesley

My middle school teachers had told me that I must work hard so as to get the chance of attending a famous college and then, according to them, I could share a free and easy college life. So far, I innocently had the idea that the college would be covered with big and flourishing trees, also pieces of green grasslands; I would be a simple boy as before, discussing interesting questions with elder well-known professors or reading varies of my favorite books in the quiet library; my friends would be a couple of energetic young men with a great idea and a heating love of life.

Through the “Dark June” that in some way was a key step to me; I lost my dream( the Qinghua University and was admitted to the famous SUN YAT-SEN UNIVERSITY unfortunately. At the beginning of my first year college life I did not take enough notice of one word in a college newspaper which said“A college life means that your self-confidence will firstly be destroyed completely and then rebuilt step by step.”

Gradually, I got to see a college life full of competition, from school records to social experience, from class honor to personal future. Even a very small chance, there were crowds of people, who were trying their best to beat others in order to win out. Measures, influence, conjecture and suspect, unfamiliar words one by one came to everyone’s daily life. Here the oxygen supplied to feelings was so thin. What was worse, I shouldn’t have any complaint about the phenomenon. “Who fits the environment lives”, as the top students all told me that the theory of evolution was true for ever, so what I should do was adapting myself to the given circumstances as soon as possible.

The situation was similar in college learning. It once appeared to me that the classes in college were much less than it was in middle school and I might be very leisurely. But, indeed, I didn’t fill a little relaxed at all. I had a lot of courses to learn and had a lot of homework each. So instead of having a pretty of time to play, I spent most of my energy studying and studying, usually until midnight every day, having a great gap compared to what my middle school teachers had said. And I also had a lot of courses I wanted to learn besides classes, so time for me was very short.

College life, far from my imagination, seemed to like this: it puts the exist-for-ever contradiction between idea and reality in the sunshine completely, wakes me up from a nice dream and makes me clearly understand the gap between them.

For the far- from- my-imagination college life, I don’t know whether I should love or hate it, but I know I have to take good care of it and make good use of it, or I will regret in the future. After all, there is something advanced to learn beyond. I am confident enough that I am strong enough.--------By Lesley

My short-time goals-By Lesley

So for, I always have a great dream (That is secret.) But, actually, I seldom calm down to think over my short-term goals, for there is great difficult to keep mind of them. Now, I have some:

1. I want to be healthy! Good health is the basis of good life. After entering college, I’ve never practiced earnestly, sometimes just for short-time passion, sometimes just to prepare for the test of P.E. From now on, I will practice more and never be lazy!

2. I want to be energetic! In fact, we are busy and have so many things to do. Besides our good planning, we should be energetic to deal with what may lie ahead. To attain this goal, I will set a logical arrangement for my daily life.

3. Plan well! Sometimes I get confused about what I have to do immediately and what can be dealt with relatively slowly. I think I have to be more decisive and no more to be blocked by my weakness and Hesitation.

4. Carry out my plan as soon as the plan is set. No matter how perfect the plan is, carrying it out is more important. I always failed to carry the plans, because I often delayed to tomorrow, and there were endless tomorrows.

I still have many goals, but I will do them one by one, step by step. After all, its not easy to form a good habit! However, I have the belief and determination to do it well.
